Urology Products

The urinary system is affected by many factors such as aging, infection, injury, and underlying illnesses. These factors can lead to a wide range of disorders that cause painful, life-disrupting symptoms. Ferring is committed to helping people treat and overcome these disorders and restoring their quality of life.

The Ferring Group has long been involved in the research and development of products that treat urologic disorders. For example, desmopressin acetate, an analog of the human anti-diuretic hormone vasopressin, was originally discovered by The Ferring Group.

The introduction of Prosed® DS for urinary pain and discomfort marks our first
US-branded entry into this therapeutic category. A number of additional products, however, are currently in clinical trials. Our goal is to further help patients by improving and expanding upon our existing urology portfolio through continued development and acquisition.

Prosed® DS
For many years, physicians have been prescribing Prosed® DS to relieve the discomfort that accompanies lower urinary tract infections, inflammation, and diagnostic procedures. Unlike many other medications used to treat urinary discomfort, however, Prosed® DS is more than an analgesic (pain reliever)—it is a combination analgesic, antispasmodic, and antiseptic. The unique blend of ingredients in Prosed® DS works together to relieve pain, burning, and spasm. These ingredients include methenamine, phenyl salicylate, methylene blue, benzoic acid, hyoscyamine sulfate.

For more information about Prosed® DS, call 1-888-FERRING.

Prosed® DS is indicated for the relief of discomfort of the lower urinary tract caused by hypermotility resulting from inflammation or diagnostic procedures and in the treatment of cystitis, urethritis and trigonitis when caused by organisms which maintain or produce an acid urine and are susceptible to formaldehyde.

Prosed® DS is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any of its ingredients.  Risk-benefit should be considered when the following medical problems exist: glaucoma, urinary bladder neck obstruction, pyloric or duodenal obstruction or cardiospasm.

Prosed® DS is not for use in patients under the age of 12.

Prosed® DS is generally well tolerated. Adverse reactions include: cardiovascular: rapid pulse, flushing; central nervous system: blurred vision, dizziness; respiratory: shortness of breath or troubled breathing; genitourinary: difficult micturition, acute urinary retention; gastrointestinal: dry mouth, nausea/vomiting.
